The boy band made its first public appearance without Zayn Malik.
One Direction showed up to the 2015 Billboard Music Awards as a quartet on Sunday night but showed that the four had no ill will toward recently departed member Zayn Malik. During an acceptance speech, 1D's Liam Payne shouted out "Malik" onstage and conjured a large fan reaction inside and outside Las Vegas' MGM Grand Garden Arena.
"There's one more person to share this with," said Payne as he wrapped up the first acceptance speech of the night, "and that's our brother Zayn."
The Billboard Music Awards win came in the top duo/group category, where One Direction trumped artists like Maroon 5 and former tourmates 5 Seconds of Summer, among others. One Direction also was nominated for top artist at the 2015 ceremony.
Zayn Malik officially left One Direction in March after bowing out of multiple tour dates. Since then, he and 1D's Louis Tomlinson have traded insults on Twitter.
