Katy Perry, Rihanna and Macklemore & Ryan Lewis also will contend in several major categories on May 18 at Las Vegas' MGM Grand Arena.

Lorde and Imagine Dragons lead the finalists for the 2014 Billboard Music Awards, which will air live May 18 beginning at 8 p.m. ET on ABC from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

Finalists Justin Timberlake, Katy Perry and Macklemore & Ryan Lewis appear in 11, 10 and 8 categories, respectively. Perry is already a three-time Billboard Music Award winner, last honored with the 2012 Spotlight Award, recognizing her achievement as the first woman to earn five No. 1 songs on the Billboard Hot 100 chart from one album (Teenage Dream). Timberlake is up for Top Artist and Top Billboard 200 Album. He also has the most entries as a finalist for albums with three, including two entries for Top R&B Album with the two-part The 20/20 Experience.

Other notable first-timers include Zedd and Capital Cities, with three categories each, Avicii with four and Sidewalk Prophets.

Billboard Music Awards regular Rihanna returns in five categories (she's been a finalist 49 times), while radio staples "Get Lucky" (Daft Punk and Pharrell Williams), "Wrecking Ball" (by Miley Cyrus), “Thrift Shop" and "Can't Hold Us" (by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis) each notch two title categories.

In the country field, Luke Bryan leads all with seven entries in six categories, including the overall category Top Male Artist.
