Usher, Kelly Clarkson, Linkin Park and Nelly Furtado to Perform at Billboard Music Awards
The May 20 ceremony will also feature sets from Justin Bieber, Carrie Underwood, LMFAO, The Wanted and Cee Lo Green.
Kelly Clarkson, Usher, Linkin Park and Nelly Furtado have joined the growing list of superstar performers set to dazzle the 2012 Billboard Music Awards in Las Vegas, which airs live May 20 on ABC at 8 p.m. ET from the MGM Grand Arena.
Previously announced performers include Justin Bieber, Carrie Underwood, LMFAO and The Wanted. On Friday (April 27), Cee Lo Green joined the roster during a press conference outside Caesars Palace in Las Vegas.
Clarkson's most recent album, Stronger, debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 and has yielded a No. 1 single with "Stronger (What Doesn't Kill You)." The other newly announced performers all have something in common, aside from platinum albums: major releases in June.
Usher's performance will come less than a month before his highly anticipated set, Looking for Myself, hits stores June 12; Nelly Furtado's fifth studio album, The Spirit Indestructible, drops June 19; and Linkin Park, who happen to be the biggest band on Facebook (41 million and counting), will unleash LIVING THINGS on June 26.
Additional acts and presenters will be announced in the coming weeks.
Adele, LMFAO, Rihanna, Lady Gaga and Lil Wayne are the leading finalists. Adele takes the lead as a finalist in 18 award categories, while LMFAO is a finalist in 17 categories. Rihanna lands in 13 categories this year, after leading the pack with 18 category appearances in 2011. Lady Gaga and Lil Wayne each snagged a spot in 10 categories. See a full list of finalists here.
Hosting this year's event will be Modern Family co-stars Julie Bowen and Ty Burrell.
Tickets for the 2012 Billboard Music Awards are now on sale at Ticketmaster.com and MGMGrand.com. The 2012 Billboard Music Awards will be co-executive produced by Richard D. Beckman, CEO of Prometheus Global Media and Don Mischer Productions.
