Ariana Grande Shares Her Mother's Best Lesson at Billboard's Women in Music

"I can't wait to do music hopefully forever"

After a tearful introduction from her brother Frankie, Ariana Grande took the Cipriani Wall Street stage at the Billboard Women in Music 2014 event on Friday to accept the Rising Star honor. And in her acceptance speech, she turned the spotlight onto the two longtime stars in her life.

"I want to share this honor with two women who inspired me — not you, Frankie, I'm sorry," Grande joked. "My mama and my nonna.

"I want to thank my mama for teaching me to work hard, and that behind every successful woman is herself," Grande said as her mother got misty-eyed in the audience. "And I want to thank my nonna for taking me to my first audition and for teaching me to have compassion for the haters."

But there were no haters in the industry audience at Women in Music. Prior to Grande, Betty Who performed one of her personal favorites from Grande's My Everything, the ballad "Love Me Harder." Accompanied only by an acoustic guitar and her nuanced voice, Who gently wowed the room.

Before Grande left the stage, she uttered a phrase everyone agreed with: "I can't wait to do music hopefully forever."
