DreamWorks has tapped Christine Birch, former executive vp creative advertising at Columbia Pictures, to head its marketing department.

Birch, who already has moved to DreamWorks' Universal City offices, will report to Stacey Snider. The top marketing position has been vacant since February, when Terry Press segued from that post to head of marketing at DreamWorks Animation after Paramount Pictures' takeover of DreamWorks' live-action division. Press, who is exiting her DWA post to start her own company, also spearheaded the campaigns for such award contenders as "Dreamgirls" and "Flags of Our Fathers."

Birch, who worked under Sony marketing chief Valerie Van Galder, joined the Culver City studio as a manager of research for TriStar in 1986. After working at MGM from 1990-95, she rejoined Sony Pictures Entertainment as vp market research. She rose to the exec vp post in September 2005 and worked on such recent campaigns as "The Holiday," "Stranger Than Fiction," "Marie Antoniette" and "Hitch."
