'Birdman,' 'Transparent' Lead Dorian Award Nominees

'Birdman'

The Gay and Lesbian Entertainment Critics Association also announced it will present its Timeless Award to George Takei.

Birdman and Transparent led the Dorian Award film and TV nominations, respectively, that were announced today by The Gay and Lesbian Entertainment Critics Association, which is comprised of more than 100 critics and entertainment journalists nationwide. The group, which says its mission is to honor content “from mainstream to gaystream,” unveiled nominations in 24 categories.

Birdman was nominated for film of the year, along with Boyhood, The Grand Budapest Hotel, The Imitation Game and Pride.

Pride, which tells the true story of London-based gay and lesbian activists who lent their support to striking miners during the early ‘80s in Great Britain, was also nominated for LGBTQ Film of the Year along with The Imitation Game, Love Is Strange, Stranger by the Lake and The Way He Looks.

Transparent, which streams on Amazon, was nominated for TV comedy of the Year, in a group that includes The Comeback, Modern Family, Orange is the New Black, and Veep. Transparent, Modern Family and Orange were all also was nominated for LGBTQ TV Show of the Year, alongside Looking and Please Like Me.

Competing for the title of Campy Flick of the Year are Annie, Gone Girl, Into the Woods, Maleficent and Tammy, while the nominees for Campy TV Show of the Year are American Horror Story: Freak Show, How to Get Away with Murder, Jane the Virgin, Peter Pan Live! and Penny Dreadful.

Star Trek veteran George Takei will be honored with the group’s Timeless Award. Winners will be announced Jan. 20, with a Winners Toast set March 1 in Los Angeles.
