Birman to direct Equinoxe's 'Fish Story'
Equinoxe also producing 'Winnie,' 'Colours' and Vivaldi bioTORONTO -- Montrealer Matt Birman is on board to direct the $7.4 million feature "A Fish Story" from Equinoxe Films, Aisha Productions and Urban Lumberjack Films.
The movie, written by Sam Roberts, will start shooting in the Gatineau region of Quebec in mid-July.
Montreal-based Equinoxe is also to begin production in June in South Africa on the Jennifer Hudson-starring "Winnie," a $15 million film that portrays the life of Winnie Mandela.
Darrell Roodt is directing and MaAfrika Films co-producing. Equinoxe is also mid-way through production on another Canada-South Africa co-production, "A Million Colours," which is directed and co-written by Peter Bishai. The $6.4 million feature, filming in South Africa, is set during the Soweto uprising in 1976.
And Equinoxe producer Michael Mosca is developing an English-language film based on the life of the Baroque composer Antonio Vivaldi.
