BEBO IN CONTENT BIZ

Social networking site Bebo plans a minimum of six original productions for 2009 under a newly created program banner dubbed Bebo Originals. The move makes Bebo's programming efforts more similar to that of TV networks that commission, schedule and promote shows. Bebo said it will branch out from the drama category to add entertainment, reality and comedy content.

Strike foolhardy?

Two days before SAG's national board is likely to vote on seeking strike-authorization from its membership, News Corp. president and COO Peter Chernin warned that it would be "foolhardy" for actors to strike. Chernin said: "SAG has come in and basically said: 'The deal you made with everyone else is not good enough for us.' " The talks have been stalled since June 30 when management issued what it called a "final offer" and broke off talks. The guild has held out and urged management to return to the table, seeking better terms on new media.

LOSING POINTS

BMO analyst Edward Williams tempered his outlook for video game companies Thursday "owing to the ongoing macroeconomic issues."
