Bjork and David Attenborough Documentary Headed to U.K. Television

LONDON – The pairing of veteran natural history broadcaster David Attenborough and Icelandic musician Bjork for a one-off documentary Attenborough and Bjork: The Nature of Music has struck a note with broadcaster Channel 4.

The U.K. broadcaster has inked a deal to bring the film to British eyes and ears.

The project follows Attenborough, whose hushed commentary is synonymous with natural history programming here and around the globe, and Bjork as the pair tell the story of how and why music has evolved.

The duo also explore human kind's unique relationship with music and how technology might transform the way we engage with it in the future.

The documentary is made by Pulse and is a product of a collaboration between the company's film and television divisions for the first time.

Output by Pulse's film division, led by Lucas Ochoa, includes Katy Perry: Part of Me and Grammy-nominated Blur No Distance Left to Run. Ochoa was executive producer on those.

Executive producer Ochoa said Attenborough and Bjork: The Nature of Music shows Pulse's efforts to come at things from a fresh perspective.

"Born from Bjork’s revolutionary music project we are thrilled to be able to document this incredible journey with her; she is undeniably one of the most iconic figures in popular culture and truly pushes boundaries like no other artist does," Ochoa said.

At the heart of the film is Biophilia – Bjork's cutting edge music project and accompanying interactive musical experience – exploring where nature, music and technology meet.

Illustrating how music exists in the natural world, Attenborough takes viewers through footage of the lyre bird, reed warbler and blue whales, and also speaks about his own life-long passion for music.

Attenborough and Bjork: The Nature of Music is directed by Louise Hooper and made by Pulse Films.
