Stanley Mark Robinson, father to Black Crowes' founding members and brothers Chris and Rich Robinson, has died at 73. The cause of death is still unknown.

A lifetime resident of Atlanta, Ga., where his two sons formed their Southern rock band in 1989, the elder Robinson died peacefully at home on Tuesday, Sept. 10, according to a rep for the group. He is survived by six grandchildren, including 9-year-old Ryder, the son of Chris Robinson and ex-wife Kate Hudson, and one sister.

"His life was blessed with many friends whom he constantly entertained with his countless stories and humor, and filled their lives with laughter," reads a statement issued on Sept. 12. "His early career was in the music industry as a singer, songwriter and musician. Later in life he represented clothing manufacturers throughout the eastern United States and was a fixture at the Atlanta merchandise mart."

The family is planning a private memorial service and asks that "those who knew Stan, remember him as we all experienced him, so very full of life."
