Black Keys' Frontman Dan Auerbach Producing Hanni El Khatib Album
Between Coachella sets and guiding indie acts like Michael Kiwanuka and Tennis, the rocker finds time to produce the sophomore effort from the L.A. local who garnered attention as an opener for Florence and The Machine.
The Black Keys' Dan Auerbach will produce Los Angeles rocker Hanni El Khatib's sophomore album, Khatib revealed.
"My new songs lean toward '60s garage but without nostalgia. I want a record that makes sense to me today," he told LA Weekly.
The musician, whose blistering take on vintage blues has much in common with Auerbach's day job, earned notice with last year's "When Will the Guns Come Out," scoring an opening slot with Florence + The Machine and synchs with Nike and HBO's Eastbound and Down. His next effort is set to be recorded later this year.

"A friend owns a bar in Paris and introduced us when I was deejaying after a show," Khatib told LA Weekly of connecting with the Black Keys member. "He went deep into music and started dropping knowledge about all these obscure L.A. bands. We ended up going back and forth deejaying all night."
Auerbach most recently produced a track for UK singer Michael Kiwanuka as well as Denver indie act Tennis' sophomore album, Young and Old -- all in between the Black Keys' busy schedule, which includes a number of summer tour dates. The duo will start the season with a pair of Coachella headlining shows before heading through North America and Europe.
