Chris Hemsworth is an Action-Hero Hacker in 'Blackhat' Trailer
Michael Mann's cyber-thriller is set to hit theaters in January
Chris Hemsworth plays a genius coder trying to track down an evil hacker wreaking havoc on the financial markets in the first trailer for Michael Mann's cyber-thriller Blackhat.
But Hemsworth's character is a hacker, too, serving 15 years behind bars, so he wants a shorter sentence in exchange for helping.
Hemsworth's Hathaway does some intense computer work, races around the globe and even brandishes a gun to find a globe-trotting cyber criminal with ambiguous motives.
"This isn't about money. This isn't about politics … I can target anyone anywhere," the bearded hacker is shown saying.
The trailer emphasizes the interconnectedness of the world and its information and how that leaves individuals vulnerable, something Mann discussed when he spoke to The Hollywood Reporter's executive features editor Stephen Galloway during his Hollywood Masters series at Loyola Marymount University.
Mann said he met with several hackers, including ones who had been imprisoned, while working on the film and thinks he's "probably" been hacked.
Universal and Legendary are set to release Blackhat on Jan. 16, 2015.
