Sofia Coppola's 'Bling Ring' Sells to A24
U.S. rights sold for the film -- based on a group of thieves who raided homes in the Hollywood Hills -- that stars Emma Watson, Leslie Mann and real-life victim Paris Hilton.
New production-distribution company A24 has acquired U.S. rights to Sofia Coppola’s The Bling Ring, based on the true story of a group of affluent Los Angeles teens that robbed celebrity homes.
Emma Watson stars in the feature along with Israel Broussard, Katie Chang, Claire Julien, Taissa Farmiga, Leslie Mann, Gavin Rossdale and real-life Bling Ring victim Paris Hilton. It is based on the Vanity Fair article "The Suspects Wore Louboutins" by Nancy Jo Sales.
The film was produced by Coppola, her brother Roman Coppola and Youree Henley. It was executive produced by Emilio Diez Barroso and Darlene Caamano Loquet of NALA Films, which provided the financing; Michael Zakin and Francis Ford Coppola for American Zoetrope; and regular Coppola collaborators Fred Roos and Paul Rassam.

The so-called Bling Ring operated from October 2008 through August 2009 and stole more than $3 million in goods from its victims. Coppola filmed the project in some of the real homes of the celebrity victims.
“Sofia Coppola is an iconic American filmmaker, and she has focused her distinctive style and uncanny ability to capture the zeitgeist in The Bling Ring," an A24 spokesperson said in a release. "We are thrilled to be working with her and look forward to bringing her undeniably fun and incredibly stylistic film to audiences nationwide.”
The deal was negotiated with A24 by Bart Walker of ICM Partners and Barry Hirsch of Hirsch Wallerstein Hayum Matlof + Fishman on behalf of the filmmakers. Coppola is repped by ICM and Hirsch, and Sales is repped by APA.
A24 also is releasing Roman Coppola’s upcoming A Glimpse Inside the Mind of Charles Swan III and Sally Potter’s Ginger & Rosa.
