'Blue Bloods' Poised to Ink Multiplatform Syndication Deal
CBS is expected to announce an SVOD deal for the Tom Selleck crime drama as well as pacts with both WGN America and ION.
Blue Bloods is poised for a lift.
The CBS procedural is expected to announce a multiplatform syndication deal, with ION and WGN America believed to have snapped up broadcast syndication rights and off-net cable rights, respectively, to the Tom Selleck crime drama. Bloods will likely begin airing in syndication later in 2014, after the series has wrapped its fourth season on CBS.
The series will soon announce an SVOD deal, too, say sources familiar with the proceedings. The same is believed to be true for another CBS drama, Elementary, which inked a deal with WGNA for exclusive off-network cable rights last week. These multiplatform pacts are said to be similar in structure to the deal CBS made for critical darling The Good Wife. CBS declined comment.
The news comes just days after Bloods logged its biggest audience since its series premiere back in 2010. The often older-skewing CBS TV Studios-produced show drew 12.8 million viewers, particularly impressive when you consider it airs on Friday nights.
Bloods will join a growing collection of CBS dramas on WGNA's schedule. In addition to Elementary, the cable network has inked a deal for Person of Interest, part of an aggressive push to make the channel more valuable to carriers and viewers alike. That strategy also entails ramping up its original strategy with forthcoming projects including Salem and Manhattan. Over at ION, Bloods will be added to a slate that currently counts repeats of Criminal Minds, Cold Case and Fox TV Studios’ Burn Notice among its offerings.
