MGM has announced the development and construction in Shanghai of MGM Studio World, a lifestyle center built around the MGM brand and its intellectual properties. An indoor venue combining dining, retailing, nightlife and entertainment in a space of about 200,000 square feet, MGM Studio World will be located in the southern part of the Putuo District in Shanghai. It is slated to be unveiled in summer 2010 to coincide with the World's Fair Expo in Shanghai.
GET Interactive has announced the availability of its new mobile and Internet shopping application that allows consumers to purchase products directly from video content by scrolling over a "G for get" logo superimposed over any items available for sale. GET said the shopping application will drive new revenue for mobile and Web content providers by enabling consumers to identify products in video content and then purchase them from the Internet or via their mobile phones. They also can download coupons redeemable at nearby retail stores from their cell phones without disrupting the viewing experience, GET said.
Cartoon Network said that it is hosting a promotion and sweepstakes in support of 20th Century Fox's "Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer." The promotion, which started this week, includes spots featuring clips from the movie that will drive viewers to Cartoon Network's Toonami action-adventure programming block Saturday to catch the Silver Surfer and win prizes. During Toonami, a custom spot will run revealing the Silver Surfer with a toll-free number viewers can call for the chance to win a trip to California, complete with surfing lessons, or one of several "Fantastic Four" toy sets from Hasbro.
