Blythe Danner Takes 'Nice Work' on Broadway
The veteran stage, screen and TV actress will play a 12-week stint in the Gershwin musical "Nice Work If You Can Get It," which stars Matthew Broderick.
Emmy and Tony-winning actress Blythe Danner will join the cast of the musical comedy Nice Work If You Can Get It for a 12-week engagement, marking her first time on Broadway since 2001.
Danner steps into the role of Millicent Winter, the fur-swathed mother of the character played by Matthew Broderick. Stitched around a score of classic songs by George and Ira Gershwin, the show is a Jazz Age tale of bootleggers mixed up with an idle rich playboy with a weakness for chorus girls. Danner takes over in the role from Estelle Parsons, who plays her final performance Dec. 16.

Directed and choreographed by Kathleen Marshall (Anything Goes), the musical also stars Kelli O'Hara, as well as Judy Kaye and Michael McGrath, both of whom won featured actor Tony Awards this year for their roles.
Danner won a Tony in 1970 for the play Butterflies Are Free and was nominated again in 1980 for Harold Pinter's Betrayal, in 1988 for Tennessee Williams' A Streetcar Named Desire, and in 2001 for Stephen Sondheim and James Goldman's Follies. Her other Broadway work has included Twelfth Night, Blithe Spirit, The Philadelphia Story and The Deep Blue Sea.
She will appear in Nice Work If You Can Get It through March 10.
