'Boardwalk Empire' finds HD home in UK

BSkyB launches SkyAtlantic to air HBO, AMC shows

LONDON -- Fresh from adding "Mad Men" to its program lineup, BSkyB said Friday it was launching a new channel, Sky Atlantic, to be the new home for its HBO and Madison Avenue fare.

Sky has signed a life-of-series deal with Lionsgate for exclusive rights to the AMC show, which it will air from series five onwards after outbidding the BBC to carry the show.

Sky Atlantic will air new HBO shows like Martin Scorsese's "Boardwalk Empire" as well as future seasons of existing HBO shows including "Entourage" and "Big Love" as well as HBO's critically lauded archive, which includes "The Sopranos," "The Wire," and "Six Feet Under."

Sophie Turner Laing, Sky's managing director, Entertainment, News & Broadcast Operations said the channel would offer "compulsive television."

Sky has also secured a deal for fourth, fifth and sixth seasons of the critically acclaimed comedy series "Weeds," including the rights to the previously unseen fourth, fifth and sixth seasons.
