Bob Dylan Artwork to Go on View in NY
The singer will show paintings this Sept. at Manhattan's Gagosian Gallery.
Bob Dylan -- who is busy touring the United States this summer (he's in Memphis July 30 and Nashville Aug. 1) and Europe in the fall -- reportedly has another date on his schedule: a show of his paintings at Gagosian Gallery in Manhattan.
The blue-chip gallery, which shows the likes of Andy Warhol, Cindy Sherman, Robert Rauschenberg and Jeff Koons, is not releasing information on the show, but The New York Observer is reporting that the show is set for September.
The singer has been working as an artist for decades, making a series of works while on tour from 1989 to 1992. The collection was published in a 1994 book, Drawn Blank, which included drawings and sketches of cityscapes, hotel rooms and female figures, accompanied by short poems and text.
According to the Gagosian Gallery’s website: "Bob Dylan has only recently begun to exhibit his works publicly. Firstly, a collection of multi-media watercolors and gouaches, The Drawn Blank Series, was exhibited in Germany’s Kunstsammlungen Chemnitz in autumn 2007. His latest works on acrylic and canvas, The Brazil Series, are currently on exhibit at The National Gallery of Denmark in Copenhagen."
Dylan also sells some of his works from the Drawn Blank series on his website, BobDylanArt.com. "Man on a Bridge," for instance, a limited edition graphic of 295 hand-signed by the artist, is available for 1,500 pounds (around $2500).
