Bob Schieffer Returns to CBS News as Political Contributor
The veteran 'Face the Nation' moderator will contribute across CBS News platforms through the 2017 inauguration.
Bob Schieffer will return to CBS News as a contributor during the 2016 campaign. The veteran network correspondent and Face the Nation moderator, who retired last year, will be pressed into service through the 2017 inauguration.
“This is a momentous presidential election year and we’ve assembled a great team to cover it,” CBS News president David Rhodes said Wednesday in a statement. “Having Bob’s insights available throughout the political season will boost the strong CBS News team and benefit our viewers.”
Schieffer's first appearance will be Thursday — the day of Fox Business Network's Republican debate — on CBS This Morning.
“I’m flattered and delighted to offer thoughts on this campaign,” said Schieffer. “It’s certainly one of the most unusual of my lifetime.”
After 24 years as moderator of Face the Nation, he handed the reins in June to current host John Dickerson. Schieffer has been a reporter for more than 50 years, 46 of them at CBS News.
