Bono's Private Jet Lands Safely After Door Falls Off Mid-Flight

The U2 singer is said to have lost luggage that fell from the plane

U2 frontman Bono was said to have made a lucky escape Wednesday after the rear hatch of his private Learjet came off as he was flying with four friends to Germany.

According to a source quoted in the Irish Daily Mail, the incident occurred about an hour into the journey from Dublin when the passengers heard a “big thud” coming from the rear of the aircraft. The plane managed to land safely at Berlin’s Schoenefeld Airport minutes later.

"When they landed they were horrified to learn that the compartment at the rear of the place had completely detached," the paper quoted the source as saying. "The entire door along with Bono and his companions’ luggage had fallen out mid-air. They don’t know if the door and the contents landed over water or land, but they were extremely lucky."

Bono is yet to comment on the incident, although authorities at the airport confirmed that the jet had landed with a damaged tailgate.
