Richard Belzer and Paul Shaffer have separately inked book deals.

Belzer (NBC's "Law & Order: SVU") has signed a two-book deal with Simon & Schuster to write a mystery series featuring the author as himself, a TV actor who gets wrapped up in real mysteries. The first novel in the series, "I Am Not a Cop," will be published in fall 2008. Belzer will co-write with collaborator Mike Black.

Shaffer, David Letterman's longtime bandleader and sidekick, has signed with Flying Dolphin Press, an imprint of Random House Inc.'s Doubleday Broadway Publishing Group, to pen a memoir of his life in show business. David Ritz will collaborate with Shaffer on the writing of the book, which is anticipated to be published in hardcover in 2009.

Shaffer's deal was negotiated by Flying Dolphin's Suzanne Herz, Shaffer's longtime manager Eric Gardner of Panacea Entertainment and Ritz's agent David Vigliano of Vigliano Associates. Simon & Schuster executive vp/publisher David Rosenthal and senior editor Colin Fox negotiated Belzer's deal with Gardner, his longtime manager.
