Tatiana Maslany in Talks to Star in Boston Marathon Bombing Movie (Exclusive)
While there are multiple Boston Marathon bombing projects in the works from several studios, this one focuses on Jeff Bauman (Jake Gyllenhaal), a survivor who lost both his legs in the attack.
Orphan Black star Tatiana Maslany is in early negotiations to star opposite Jake Gyllenhaal in Stronger, Lionsgate's Boston Marathon bombing film being directed by David Gordon Green.
While there are multiple Boston Marathon bombing projects in the works from several studios, this one focuses on Jeff Bauman, a survivor who lost both his legs in the attack.
Bauman was waiting for his girlfriend at the finish line of the annual marathon when two pressure cooker bombs exploded, killing three people and injuring more than 260 others.
Gyllenhaal is portraying Bauman and Maslany will play the girlfriend, the movie’s female lead.
The movie project adapts Bauman’s memoir, co-written by Bret Witter. John Pollono wrote the script.
David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman of Mandeville Films/TV are producing along with Scott Silver.
Maslany has received numerous accolades for her work on Black, a veritable showcase for her talent as she plays clones with numerous personalities.
Stronger would be the largest get yet for the Canadian actress, who has mostly eschewed roles in studio gigs. Maslany has, however, been in the orbit for two Star Wars movies; she was a finalist for a role in Star Wars: Rogue One and is currently in the mix for Star Wars: Episode VIII, doing chemistry reads as late as this past weekend. It is unclear if the Stronger role takes her out of the running, as scheduling details have not been revealed, but it would appear that way.
Maslany is repped by ICM Partners, Magnolia Entertainment and Canada’s Characters Talent Agency.
