Box Office Milestone: Final 'Harry Potter' Pic Crosses $1 Billion; 'Transformers' Not Far Behind
Warner Bros.’ Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 has become part of the elite billion dollar club, while Paramount’s Transformers: Dark of the Moon should become a member within days.
Before this summer, only seven movies in history had grossed $1 billion or more at the domestic box office.

There’s now nine, between Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides and Deathly Hallows 2, the first film in the franchise to reach the milestone. Dark of the Moon will make it ten.
Through Sunday, Deathly Hallows has earned $1.01 billion, including a domestic total of $318.5 million and international cume of $690 million. The pic tied the record for the fastest climb to $1 billion, accomplishing the task in only 17 days.
Deathly Hallows 2 also is the top grossing film in Warner history worldwide.
“What’s truly astounding is that these kind of numbers are being achieved so early in the film’s release,” said Warners president of domestic distribution Dan Fellman, who announced the milestone with president of international distribution Veronikia Kwan-Rubinek.
