Box Office Report: Paramount Pictures International Crosses $1 Billion Mark

Studio hit the milestone on strength of "Thor" and "Kung Fu Panda 2," both of which have grossed more than $200 million.

Paramount Pictures International has surpassed the $1 billion mark at the international box office on the strength of a number of titles.

It's the fifth year in a row that the studio has crossed that milestone in offshore revenues under the leadership of PPI president Andrew Cripps.

So far this year, Paramount's top grossing movie overseas is Marvel Studios' Thor at $259 million (Japan has yet to open), followed by Kung Fu Panda 2, which has already earned $205 million.

That's followed by Rango at $119.5 million, while Little Fockers earned $105.3 million of its $162.2 million international gross in 2011. Among other carryover titles from 2010, True Grit earned $79.8 million in this calendar year.

"We are enormously proud to have hit this milestone as we reach the half-year mark on the calendar," Paramount chair-CEO Brad Grey. "With the continuous growth of the international market place, we remain dedicated to bringing audiences around the world a wide range of entertainment."

Last weekend, J.J. Abrams' period sci-fi pic Super 8 opened day and date in nine territories, grossing a strong $6.7 million.
