Box Office Report: 'Rise of the Planet of the Apes' Grosses $1.3 Million in Midnight Runs
Fox's origins pic stars James Franco, Andy Serkis, Freida Pinto and John Lithgow.
Rupert Wyatt’s origins pic Rise of the Planet of the Apes grossed $1.3 million from 1,024 midnight runs, almost double the $700,000 midnight gross for last weekend's Cowboys & Aliens.
Tracking has suggested 20th Century Fox's Rise of the Apes will open to $30 million, and possibly $35 million.
So far on Friday, Rise of the Apes is performing on par with Cowboys, which opened to $36.4 million.
While a disappointing nubmer for that film -- which cost a pricey $163 million to produce -- an opening in the mid $30 million range would be a solid start for Rise of the Apes, since its production budget was $93 million.
Rise of the Apes headlines Andy Serkis as the ape Caesar, and also stars opposite James Franco, Freida Pinto and John Lithgow.
Peter Chernin and Dylan Clark's Chernin Entertainment produced the movie, which was co-financed by Fox, Dune Entertainment and Ingenious.
