'The Boxcar Children' to Get Family Film Treatment
Shout! Factory and Legacy Classics are partnering to produce and distribute family-friendly films based on best-selling children's book series, including the Gertrude Warner classic.
The Boxcar Children could be pulling up to a screen near you.
The children's book series, which boasts more than 150 titles, is set for the family-friendly movie treatment thanks to a new partnership between multiplatform media company Shout! Factory and production company Legacy Classics.
Legacy owns the rights to Gertrude Warner's The Boxcar Children and has decided to work with Shout! to produce animated and live-action features based on this and other children's book series in the Legacy library.
Boxcar Children follows four orphans who play in a train boxcar in their grandfather's backyard.
“We are thrilled about this new opportunity with Legacy Classics, an innovative production company that has emerged as a major creative force in family entertainment," Shout! Factory founders Richard Foos, Bob Emmer and Garson Foos said Thursday in a statement. "We share the same entrepreneurial vision that bodes well for the success of this collaboration."
Shout! and Legacy are aiming for an output of four feature-length projects a year while working closely with Boxcar publisher Albert Whitman & Co.
