Brandon Jay McLaren, Amanda Crew Win Golden Maple Awards

The honors, which recognized performers and sports figures working in the U.S., were handed out at a ceremony in Los Angeles.

Graceland’s Brandon Jay McLaren and Silicon Valley’s Amanda Crew were named best actor and actress in a TV series broadcast in the U.S. at the inaugural Golden Maple Awards, which were held today at the SLS Hotel in Los Angeles.

The awards, presented by the Academy of Canadians in Sports & Entertainment – Los Angeles, are designed to spotlight Canadian entertainment and sports talent working in the United States, and winners were determined by a vote of the membership of ACISE-LA.

The event was hosted by Erin Karplunk of the upcoming on-line series Riftworld Chronicles.

The category of newcomer of the year in a TV series broadcast in the U.S. resulted in a title with the award going to both Emily Hampshire of 12 Monkeys and Schitt’s Creek and Meaghan Rath of New Girl.

Former NBA basketball player and Canadian actor Rick Fox was honored with the 2015 Maple of Excellence for Outstanding Athlete/Actor Crossover and Canadian CrossFit champion Lucas Parker was recognized with the 2015 Maple of Excellence for Outstanding Athlete.
