Breaking Glass Pictures Picks Up North American Rights to 'Geography Club' (Exclusive)
Starring Cameron Deane Stewart, Justin Deeley and Nikki Blonsky, the film recently won the audience award for best first feature at Outfest Los Angeles.
Breaking Glass Pictures has acquired North American distribution rights for Geography Club, the film based on Brent Hartinger's best selling YA novel, from Shoreline Entertainment.
Starring Cameron Deane Stewart (Pitch Perfect), Justin Deeley (Drop Dead Diva) and Nikki Blonsky (Hairspray), the film recently won the audience award for best first feature at Outfest Los Angeles.
Directed by Gary Entin and written by Edmund Entin, Geography Club will be released in early 2014.
The film is produced by Huffington Pictures' Michael Huffington (ex-husband of Huffington Post founder Arianna Huffington) and follows a group of high schoolers who are discovering their own sexual identities -- along with their dreams and ambitions in life.
“This universal story of each of us finding our true selves will resonate with anyone who attended high school for decades to come," says Huffington. "We are delighted that Breaking Glass Pictures is joining forces with our team to bring this entertaining and meaningful movie to the public.”
The story centers on Russel Middlebrook (Stewart), a 16-year-old who is pursuing relationships with girls while also secretly dating star quarterback Kevin (Deeley), who doesn't want any of his teammates to find out about their relationship. Russel and Kevin form The Geography Club with several other students in order to share their feelings and keep their secrets safe.
The Geography Club is based on the first book in Hartinger's series about Middlebrook. So far, three books have been released through HarperCollins.
