Bret Michaels and Kristi Gibson Call Off Their Engagement
The rocker proposed to his longtime girlfriend, and mother to his two daughters, during the finale of his VH1 reality series in late 2010.
Bret Michaels has yet to find his rock of love, as the Poison frontman and Kristi Gibson, his girlfriend of more than 16 years, have called off their engagement.
“Bret Michaels and long time girlfriend Kristi Gibson have called off their engagement at this time,” a rep for the singer told The Hollywood Reporter. “Although the couple have separated they remain great friends and are committed to jointly raising their two daughters.”
Michaels, 49, and Gibson, 41, together share two daughters, Raine Elizabeth, 12, and Jorja Bleu, 7. The “Every Rose Has Its Thorn” singer asked Gibson to be his wife on Dec. 2, 2010, which was later broadcast on the final episode of his VH1 reality series Bret Michaels: Life As I Know It.
“With all that Kristi, Raine, Jorja and I are going through, no doubt this is a very difficult time for all of us,” Michaels wrote on his website. “I want all of you to know that Kristi and I remain great friends and committed loving parents to our daughters. I am blessed to have someone as great as Kristi in my life in any capacity.”
While filming Life As I Know It, Michaels began experiencing significant health troubles including an emergency appendectomy, a near fatal brain hemorrhage – the result of being struck in the head by a set piece at the Tonys – and later, a stroke.
Michaels is expected to release a new album with his band later this year titled Get Your Rock On.
