The charity, for which the Royal Film Performance proceeds go to, appointed Wilson ahead of this year's movie Peter Jackson's The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey on Dec. 12.

Wilson takes up the post from Dec 1.

CTBF president Anne Bennett described the appointment, made by the trustees of the charity, as coming at an "important time in the development of the Fund."

"Wilson brings a wealth of highly relevant management experience from his extensive career with Granada in Manchester and LWT in London, together with senior project management and consulting roles with many leading brand media businesses,” Bennett said.

Wilson added: "Our beneficiaries come from all areas of the film and TV sectors and from all age groups and backgrounds.  We are not just supporting people through times of hardship, but also launching careers through schemes such as the John Brabourne Awards, which help to fund training and education. I am very much looking forward to the challenges of the coming years."

The fund distributed over £3 million ($4.8 million) last year.
