Spears announced in early September that she would film the video “in the streets of merry old England,” after declaring, “I LOVE London, it’s like my second home.” The singer made a pit stop in the city before kicking off the European leg of her Femme Fatale tour on Sept. 22 in St. Petersburg, Russia.
“It’s a really cool storyline,” Spears told the UK’s ITV1 of the video concept behind “Criminal.” “It’s about a girl in upper society and her life, and the way she lives her life, is totally different from the person she’s in love with. It’s about bringing those two totally different characters together and what happens.”

Spears was spotted by London photographers during the shoot, revealing a cameo appearance by boyfriend Jason Trawick. In the scene, the duo appear to be robbing a convenience store, with a handgun tucked in the waistband of Spears’ jeans.
“Criminal,” which was selected by the fans rather than record execs, is the fourth single off Spears’ Femme Fatale album.
“It was chosen by the fans,” Spears explained. “We just thought it would be really cool to be able to give back to them and, you know, see what they would appreciate.”
