Broad Green Inks First-Look Deal With Bob Cooper, Richard Saperstein (Exclusive)
Cooper and Saperstein have just formed a new production company named Storyscape Entertainment.
Broad Green Pictures has signed a first-look deal with Storyscape Entertainment, the just-launched production company from veteran producers Bob Cooper and Richard Saperstein.
The duo will develop and produce movies for the studio with the deal covering physical and financial production resources.
The pact also comes on the heels of a similar partnership with producer Matt Alvarez and gives the emerging company — founded in 2014 by Gabriel and Daniel Hammond and whose releases this year include 99 Homes, I Smile Back and A Walk in the Woods — a steady pipeline of content from proven producers. The company has spent the last year being a player on the acquisition scene but this deal signals it intends to be more active in developing homegrown material.
Both Cooper and Saperstein are not only producers but also former studio heads.
Cooper has headed top entertainment companies including DreamWorks Pictures, TriStar Pictures, Artisan Entertainment and HBO Films, and overseen films including the Academy Award winning American Beauty, As Good as It Gets, Jerry Maguire and Meet the Parents. Among his recent projects is setting up the sci-fi adventure Stealing Time with Tim Dowling writing and Colin Trevorrow executive producing.
Saperstein, meanwhile, held top positions at New Line, Artisan Pictures and Dimension Films. Among his film credits are Se7en, Hancock and 1408. He recently produced Devil’s Knot, starring Reese Witherspoon and Colin Firth and is in pre-production on the remake of the 1958 sci-fi classic The Blob, to be directed by Simon West starring Samuel L. Jackson.
“We are deeply impressed by Bob and Richard’s eye for content and talent. They have long been leaders in our industry and we look forward to working with them to add dynamic films to our slate with projects beginning in early 2016,” said the Hammonds in a statement.
