Broadband center stage at interactive Emmy nods

The National Television Academy handed out its 2006 trophies for broadband programming and personal television Monday night at an event held as part of the 58th annual Technology and Engineering Awards at the Venetian Hotel in Las Vegas.

DirecTV earned the Emmy for real-time enhancement of TV content for its DirecTV Interactive Sports service. Viacom's the N cable channel prevailed in the category of non-real-time enhancement of original TV content for its the N.com Video Mixer platform.

Sling Media's place-shifting Slingbox device won in the nontraditional programs or platforms arena. Sony Computer Entertainment's Xross Media Bar was recognized in the personal media display.

Time Warner Cable's Start Over service triumphed in the category for best use of on-demand technology over private networks. Stim TV's NPOWR won in the field of on-demand technology over the public Internet. And the Emmy for commercials featured in nontraditional platforms went to TiVo Inc.'s TiVo Interactive Advertising Platform.

During the ceremony, former DirecTV Group vice chairman Eddy Hartenstein was recognized with lifetime achievement honors for his role in launching the nation's largest satellite TV provider more than a decade ago.
