Broadcast Film Critics Association Teams With TV One for 'Celebration of Black Cinema' Special
The event will take place on Jan 7. in West Hollywood and air on the network in February.
The Broadcast Film Critics Association (BFCA) and TV One, a leading African American network, have partnered to create an original special featuring coverage and backstage interviews from the first-ever Celebration of Black Cinema event at House of Blues on Tuesday, Jan. 7.
“TV One is proud to partner with such an esteemed organization as the Broadcast Film Critics Association in recognizing what has truly been a remarkable year in African American film,” remarked Cathy Hughes, founder and chairperson of Radio One. “Through our partnership, we hope to further expose the creativity and profitability of black cinema via this star-studded programming event.”
The BFCA also announced that Darlene Love, Merry Clayton, Lisa Fischer, Táta Vega and Judith Hill (from doc 20 Feet From Stardom) will be performing a selection of songs as a special tribute at the event.
The event will highlight the stars, performances and music from films such as 42, Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom, 12 Years A Slave, Lee Daniels’ The Butler, Fruitvale Station and The Best Man Holiday. It will air on TV One in February 2014.
“There has never been a better time to honor black cinema than this year,” says BFCA president Joey Berlin, who is co-producing the event with BFCA member and KTLA Morning News anchor Sam Rubin.
