David Tennant, Olivia Colman Returning to 'Broadchurch'
The British drama's sophomore run also will return Jodie Whittaker, Andrew Buchan and Arthur Darvill.
Broadchurch is bringing back the core cast.
David Tennant, who also stars in the U.S. adaptation Gracepoint for Fox, will return for the British drama's sophomore run, along with Olivia Colman, Jodie Whittaker, Andrew Buchan and Arthur Darvill.
There had been questions about whether Tennant would star on both Broadchurch and the 10-episode Gracepoint simultaneously, with ITV's announcement making it clear that that would be the case.
Production begins in Dorset "shortly," according to ITV.
“We’re delighted Broadchurch is back in production, but we’re remaining tight-lipped about how the story develops,” said Steve November, ITV's director of drama. “Suffice to say [creator] Chris [Chibnall] has delivered as always, and the scripts are just as exciting as the first series.”
“The reaction to Broadchurch from U.K. viewers has been incredible,” said executive producer Jane Featherstone. “So we’d like viewers to enjoy the new series knowing as little as possible about what’s to come and for the story to unfold in real time.”
Chibnall will be executive producer on the new season, alongside Featherstone. Richard Stokes returns as producer. James Strong will also be back to direct the first two episodes.
Broadchurch, which debuted to 9.1 million viewers in March 2013 in the U.K., aired its first season on BBC America.
