British Columbia-based Bron Studios has joined Will Ferrell and Adam McKay's female-focused production banner Gloria Sanchez to produce the Lizzy Caplan-starrer Friend of Bill.

Friend of Bill will see Caplan play a writer who returns to her small, idyllic hometown after she's arrested for public intoxication. Her attempt to get sober is continually derailed by her complicated relationship with her mother and a pair of male suitors — one a former teacher and the other a volunteer at the AA meetings she secretly attends.

Documentarian Amy Rice will direct the feature from a script written by Harper Dill and which appeared on the 2011 Black List.

Ferrell and McKay will produce alongside Jessica Elbaum for Gloria Sanchez, the female-focused sister company of their Gary Sanchez production shingle. Aaron L. Gilbert will produce for Bron Studios. Margot Hand of Picture Films and Caplan also will produce.

Production will begin in November on Vancouver Island. WME packaged the deal and is repping domestic rights for the film.

Bron Studios' upcoming theatrical releases include such awards-season prospects as Nate Parker's The Birth of a Nation and Denzel Washington's Fences
