Brooke Shields, Tia Mowry, Andy Cohen Encourage Women to Vote in New Campaign (Video)
Actor and politicians explain their reasons for voting in the "Why I Vote" campaign.
Stars Brooke Shields, Andy Cohen, Katie Couric and Tia Mowry are encouraging women to vote in a new campaign called "Why I Vote."
But it's not just TV and film stars speaking out -- former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice also appears in the campaign, explaining her reasons for heading to the polls. “I vote to honor my ancestors who struggled for these rights because I believe everyone should have a voice and use it," she says.
"Why I Vote" is aimed at reminding American women that their vote matters. The campaign videos can be seen on iVillage's iVote channel, which provides 28 million women with election season information. In addition to the videos, iVillage is also launching a slideshow that features dozens of people -- including the women of Jersey Shore, Rachel Zoe, Aisha Tyler and Janice Min, editorial director of The Hollywood Reporter, explaining their reasons for voting. "I vote because now I can,” says Mowry. “Especially as a woman, I don't want to take for granted all the women that worked really hard to allow us to be able to have an opinion and have a voice, to be able to vote."
iVillage is one of the largest online communities for women and along with the new campaign, iVote also features “The 50 Best-to-Worst States for Women,” an analysis ranking each state on women-centric issues like healthcare and wellness, economic well-being, factors that help and hinder working moms, the number of women in elected office, reproductive rights and education.
Election Day is only three weeks away and according to Bravo’s Andy Cohen, "anybody who wouldn’t vote is kind of a jackhole.”
