Buccaneer Media Hires Former Outline Exec as Head of Unscripted
Ross McCarthy becomes the non-fiction boss at the U.K.-based scripted TV venture launched last year by Tony Wood and Cineflix Media.
TORONTO – Tony Wood's Buccaneer Media, a partnership with Canada's Cineflix Media, has named Ross McCarthy as its unscripted boss.
McCarthy, a former executive producer and head of development at Outline Productions, will join Buccaneer's London office in March as head of non-fiction fare.
Wood, a former Coronation Street and Hollyoaks producer, last year launched the U.K.-based scripted TV venture with the Canadian-based producer and distributor.
As Buccaneer shifts into unscripted shows, the producer points to a range of unspecified projects in development and preproduction for broadcasters in Britain and North America, and expects to announce new commissions shortly.
McCarthy executed a similar segue at Outline, where a move into factual entertainment formats led to BBC Worldwide Channel’s Million Dollar Intern, Health Freaks and Fat Family Tree for Channel 4 and Britain’s Big Wildlife Revival for BBC One.
"Ross has a proven track record of creating fantastic factual entertainment formats with high-profile talent. I am really looking forward to mixing up his skills and background with the structured reality programming we’ve been developing," Wood, Buccaneer's CEO, said in a statement on Wednesday.
