Brendon, who was in town to headline the weekend comic book convention ALT*Con, was released from jail Saturday. He is due in court March 30.
The actor told the Tallahassee Democrat on Saturday that he has been dealing with depression. "I stopped taking my meds a while ago, which was a mistake," said Brendon, who played Xander on Buffy. "It culminated yesterday with my taking some sleeping pills and then going into a blackout."
Brendon, who is also known for roles on Criminal Minds and Private Practice, was arrested last month on suspicion of grand theft and criminal mischief in Fort Lauderdale, and he had previously been arrested in Idaho in October 2014 for malicious injury to property.
In 2010, he landed a suspended one-year jail sentence stemming from an incident for which he was charged with four misdemeanors, including battery against a police officer and vandalism. He went to rehab in 2004 and 2010.
The actor's rep did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
