The deal will see Complex and BMP Digital produce short-form unscripted and comedy content across Complex's network.

Bunim/Murray Productions has struck a deal with youth digital magazine Complex to co-produce original content, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

The deal, which comes out of the BMP Digital division, will include the development of short-form unscripted and comedy projects that will be distributed across Complex's online network.

"Bunim/Murray has a distinct track record for producing standout unscripted series both digitally and on linear television," said Marc Fernandez, director of video programming at Complex. "We believe Bunim/Murray's production chops and relationships with traditional broadcast, paired with our voracious audience and deep understanding of today's convergence culture will breed the pop culture series audiences want."

Together, Complex and BMP Digital will adapt Complex's editorial content into one-off video projects and episodic series with an eye for TV adaptation. At first, the production deal will focus on unscripted and comedy content with expansion into new verticals — including celebrity, technology, fashion and music.

"We want to capture the spirit of Complex on video by creating series that further engage the viewer but also drive discussion and take editorial a step further," said BMP Digital chief digital officer John P. Roberts.

Complex, which was founded in 2002 as an alternative magazine for men, began to embrace digital several years ago. Today, the company's online presence spans a network of several websites that have more than 120 million unique monthly visitors.

Video has become a new focus for Complex in recent years. The company announced a deal with filmmaker Spike Lee and has released videos featuring Jerry Seinfeld and Tony Hawk. Its YouTube channel now receives more than 157 million views and has more than 402,000 subscribers.

Complex is expected to announce the partnership with BMP Digital at its unofficial NewFront event at YouTube Space NY on Friday.
