A recommendation to punish Comcast for blocking subscribers' Internet traffic at P2P sites should serve as a warning to other service providers, FCC chairman Kevin Martin said. Martin accused Comcast of placing "arbitrary limits on the way consumers can access information on the Internet." Comcast, though, has denied blocking content, saying it uses "carefully limited measures" to manage traffic on its broadband network to ensure all customers receive quality service.

U.K. media firm Guardian News & Media has acquired ContentNext, publisher of media and tech business blog PaidContent.org and other industry blogs. Reuters cited a source as saying Guardian paid about $30 million.
Shares of the satellite radio firms plunged briefly after FCC chairman Kevin Martin said more concessions from Sirius and XM might be needed before their merger plan is approved. By the end of trading Friday, though, investors factored in the news that Martin and another commissioner already are convinced that the FCC should not block the merger, meaning the firms are one vote away from approval.
