Emptyprivate time for NDS
NDS Group said that it agreed to a sweetened bid by News Corp. and affiliates of private-equity firm Permira to be taken private for $63 a share, a premium of 10% over the stock's Monday closing price. NDS on Tuesday posted Q4 net income of $37.1 million, compared with $41.1 million a year ago.
WWE OFF THE MARK
World Wrestling Entertainment's Q2 profit missed Wall Street estimates, hurt by higher expenses and lower revenue from its live and televised entertainment segment, sending its shares down 8.1% to $15.59. WWE earned $7 million for the quarter, flat compared with last year.
RADIO ONE LOSSES ADD UP
Radio One reported a Q2 net loss of $11.7 million, up from a loss of $5.1 million a year ago, on revenue that rose 1% to $83.4 million.
CHARTER CUTS LOSS
Charter Communications said that its Q2 loss narrowed to $276 million compared with $360 million a year ago. Charter added 98,900 customers during the quarter.
CABLEVISION, DISH SPIKE
More deal talk boosted shares of Cablevision Systems and Dish Networks. Cablevision will explore a spinoff, while Dish has held talks with DirecTV about a renewed merger attempt.
