BV Games goes offroad with Climax buy
LONDON -- Buena Vista Games said Thursday it has acquired racing games manufacturer Climax Racing, creator of such franchises as "MotoGP" and "ATV Offroad," for an undisclosed sum. The deal gives Buena Vista's games division its first Europe-based video games studio, in addition to existing studios in Vancouver and Utah. The deal is expected to close in October. Based in Brighton, on the southern coast of England, six-year-old Climax Racing employs about 100 game artists, programmers and designers. "The acquisition of Climax Racing aligns perfectly with our strategic and geographic goals by allowing us to both reach into new genres and new markets for creative talent," Buena Vista Games senior vp and general manager Graham Hopper said. "Adding Climax Racing to our creative family will provide an additional catalyst for our continued growth in the video games market."
