Campbell Scott, Anthony LaPaglia Short Films Picked for Tribeca Film Festival
Brendan Gleeson, David Duchovny and Colin Quinn are among the talent involved in the short films, 22 of which are world premieres.
Campbell Scott, Anthony LaPaglia, Jean Reno, Marianne Jean-Baptiste, Brendan Gleeson, Colin Quinn, Carmine Famiglietti and Eddie Marsan are among the actors who will appear in the short films chosen for this year’s Tribeca Film Festival.
Sixty short films, 22 of which are world premieres, have been selected to screen during the fest, which runs from April 20 to May 1 in New York.
The films will compete for combined cash and value-in-kind prizes totaling more than $15,000 in the categories of best narrative short, best documentary short and Student Visionary Award.
For the first time, this year the recipient of the best narrative short award will qualify for Academy Awards consideration in the short films category without the standard theatrical run, provided the film otherwise complies with Academy rules.
Other talent involved in the lineup includes David Duchovny, Joseph Fiennes and Ian McKellan, who have leant their voices to animated shorts.
Returning directors include Thomas Hefferon, Rider and Shiloh Strong, Barney Elliot, Rick Rodgers, Jay Rosenblatt, Brian Doyle, Scott Nyerges and Ken Jacobs.
The short film program will be presented in eight thematic programs, with films from 20 countries that were culled from the 2,862 submissions.
“Each of our short film programs promises an entertaining journey, exposing an audience to filmmaking they may not have the opportunity to see otherwise,” TFF head short film programmer Sharon Badal said. “Whether narrative, documentary, experimental or animation, these short films exhibit extraordinary talent. We’re thrilled to bring films from around the globe to our festival, and with a large number of world premieres, to share many of them with an audience for the first time.”
