Canada's Blue Ant Media Buys Majority Stake in New Zealand's Choice TV
The investment marks the Canadian media group's first international expansion
Canada's Blue Ant Media has secured a controlling stake in private New Zealand broadcaster Choice TV.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but Blue Ant has picked up a majority stake in the free-to-air TV channel launched in 2012 and still led by Julia Baylis as general manager.
"This partnership marks our first international broadcast investment and Choice TV programming aligns very well with our content focus,” Blue Ant CEO Michael MacMillan said in a statement Monday. Choice TV airs nationally on Freeview and Sky.
The proceeds of the Blue Ant Media investment aim to allow the New Zealand channel to continue building its programming schedule, Blue Ant said.
The Canadian broadcaster owns and operates Canadian TV channels like Cottage Life, AUX, Oasis and Smithsonian Channel Canada and recently invested in Omnia Media, a Los-Angeles-based YouTube multichannel network.
