The Canadian network won Tuesday night in the 18-49 and 24-54 demos with a two-hour premiere that beat out competition from "NCIS," NCIS: Los Angeles" and "The Taste."

Canadian broadcaster City, which has aired Fox’s culinary competition series since it launched in 2005, on Tuesday night drew around one million viewers, and won the night in the key 18-49 demo with 592,000 viewers and the 25-54 demo with 563,000 viewers.

Hell’s Kitchen, in both key demos, beat strong Tuesday night competition on rival Global Television from encore presentations of NCIS and NCIS Los Angeles, while also bettering on CTV two shows airing out of simulcast – The Taste, broadcast on ABC an hour earlier and Criminal Minds, which aired one day earlier on ABC.

In Toronto, the country’s biggest market where City is strongest, Hell’s Kitchen had a 4.6 rating in the 18-49 demo and a 4.4 rating in the 25-54 demo as the 11th season of Ramsay barking at American cooking contestants debuted.

The audience for last night’s two-hour premiere rose in the second hour by 2 percent in the 25-54 demo, and by 3 percent in the 18-49 demo.

The latest season for Hell’s Kitchen had an audience well up on last summer’s 10th season opener.

The 11th season premiere in the A25-54 demo was up 98 percent from 284,100 viewers for last season’s bow, and up 100 percent in the A18-49 demo from 281,500 viewers last summer.

Malcolm Dunlop, executive vice president of television programming and operations at City-parent Rogers Media, said the Ramsay-hosted culinary competition series has found a following with Canadians after ten seasons due to skillful casting and clever editing.

“You sort of ask is it the same thing again, so what they do so well is cast the show. It’s amazing they can get the people they cast as chefs so quickly into character,” he said Wednesday.

Next Tuesday City will have Hell’s Kitchen giving a lift to New Girl at 9 p.m. and The Mindy Project at 9: 30 p.m.
