Canadian Police Suspend Search for Missing American Filmmaker
The RCMP found no sign of Warren Andrew Sill, 26, after using aircraft and boats to find the Ohio documentary maker lost in a remote district of northern British Columbia.
TORONTO – The Royal Canadian Mounted Police has suspended the search for a missing Ohio documentary filmmaker who went into the British Columbia wilderness over two weeks ago to capture footage of elusive spirit bears.
The New Hazelton RCMP detachment found no sign of Warren Andrew Sill, 26, despite the use of aircraft, boats, police dogs and volunteers in a search for the American filmmaker that got underway on July 10.
“Further search efforts will be considered should further information be received that may assist in identifying other possible search areas," RCMP Sergeant Jeff Pelley said in a press release issued late Friday.
Even as the ground search is suspended, the RCMP will continue to investigate the disappearance of Sill, who last spoke to his family on July 4 before venturing into a British Columbia mountain range.
The RCMP has been working on the assumption that Sill is not experienced in the outdoors, and possibly got lost and disoriented in dense wilderness he entered without sufficient food, water and overnight camping gear.
Sill’s family has cooperated with the RCMP in securing access to the young filmmaker’s banking and cell phone records to assist in the investigation.
