Canadian Producers Reach Tentative Deal with Writers Guild of Canada
The new three-year agreement follows a final push where domestic screenwriters accepted a final offer placed on the table by indie producers Thursday night.
TORONTO - Canadian indie producers and the Writers Guild of Canada have reached a tentative deal on a new three-year labor deal for domestic screenwriters after a final push this week.
The new 2012-2014 Independent Production Agreement follows the Canadian Media Production Association (CMPA) and The Association des Producteurs de Films et de Télévision du Québec, its Quebec counterpart, on Thursday night putting a final offer on the table.
Details of the deal are being withheld until Canadian screenwriters ratify their deal, but the new IPA is thought to include a 2 percent rise in basic rates annually over three years.
The agreement was jointly negotiated by the CMPA and the APFTQ, producing a single agreement in Canada for English language writing in film and television.
The WGC¹s bargaining team and representatives from the CMPA and APFTQ negotiated for three days on a new IPA this week, ahead of a late Friday deadline.
