Canal Plus, Orange Launch Joint Venture
Orange Cine Star will offer movies, TV shows and exclusive programs.
PARIS -- Former rivals Canal Plus and Orange have kissed and made up with a new joint venture between Orange Cinema Series and TPS Star for one premium film channel Orange Cine Star, the networks’ parent companies Canal Plus Group and France Telecom said on Wednesday.
The new channelwill be a 50-50 partnership between the two groups and managed on an equal level.
Canal Plus will lend its production skills and Orange its technological expertise for interactive and transmedia platforms.
Orange Cine Star will offer movies, TV series and exclusive programs and will be available for all of the country’s operators.
Orange plans to keep its four other Orange Cinema Series channels, namely Orange Cine Happy, Orange Cine Choc, Orange Cine Novo and Orange Cine Geants which will all be distributed on the group’s respective networks.
“This plan combines the unique know-how of two major telecom and television companies and will allow TV viewers to enjoy a quality channel at an attractive price,” Canal Plus’ chairman Bertrand Meheut said of the venture.
Orange CEO Stephane Richard added: “Today's agreement with Canal Plus is another example of our strategy to build partnerships that will drive the development of content.”
