Candace Bushnell web series in the works
Writer to collaborate with Meredith Corp. and More magazine
Meredith Corp. and its lifestyle magazine More have teamed up with Candace Bushnell, creator of HBO's "Sex and the City" and NBC's "Lipstick Jungle," on a new web series.
Written by Bushnell and produced by director Ellen Gittelsohn ("Roseanne," "Designing Women"), "The Broadroom" will take a humorous look at workplace issues facing women.
Cast members include Jennie Garth from "Beverly Hills, 90210"; and Talia Balsam from "Mad Men." Four episodes are scheduled to air starting in September.
As part of the deal, Bushnell will pen two columns for the September and October issues of Meredith's More, a lifestyle title targeted at women aged 40-plus.
More editor Lesley Jane Seymour said she hopes the series will become the "next 'Lipstick Jungle.'"
"It's funny, and a lot of women will recognize themselves," she said. "There's the Millennial and Boomer women, all representative of different crowds we see in business."
Original online video has had its share of recession-related challenges. For "The Broadroom," however, Meredith enlisted Maybelline as a sponsor. The series are part of a nine-month, multiplatform campaign for Maybelline's new Color Sensational Lip Color lipstick line and includes print and Web ads in More; Ladies' Home Journal; and Real Girls Media, Meredith's women-aimed network of Web sites.
